    Assocaition for Psychological Science

    The Association for Psychological Science (previously the American Psychological Society) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of scientific psychology and its representation at the national and international level. The Association's mission is to promote, protect, and advance the interests of scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, teaching, and the improvement of human welfare. The Association for Psychological Science was founded in 1988 by a group of scientifically oriented psychologists interested in advancing scientific psychology and its representation as a science at the national level. APS has approximately 18,000 members and includes the leading psychological scientists and academics, clinicians, researchers, teachers, and administrators.

    Public Affairs/Science Writing Internship

    The Association for Psychological Science (APS) is seeking candidates for a science writing internship. Candidates must have a college degree, preferably in psychology (or a related scientific discipline), journalism, or communications; strong writing skills; and an interest in communicating behavioral science to the public. The internship is in the public affairs office and will be supervised by Wray Herbert, a nationally known science journalist and editor. Among other things, activities include reading scientific publications, interviewing scientists, translating studies into jargon-free English and contributing to the development of a public information page on the APS website. The ideal candidate will be considering public outreach as a career option. In 2008 there are two internship terms: The first begins in early January and runs through mid-June; the second begins in mid-June and runs through December. This position has a stipend of $1200 per month.
